November 2020

Dear reader

The day of Mahalakshmi is one of the most important days in the Vedic calendar.
Please read the beautiful poem Maharishi wrote (below) "On lamps of Deepavali" way back in 1951 when Guru Dev was still with us - it is an unique devotional expression of Maharishi's eternal wisdom.
The Sanskrit word ‘Mahalakshmi’ means ‘great wealth’.
Mahalakshmi is that impulse of creative intelligence in Nature which is responsible for prosperity, growth, and affluence in life.
On this auspicious Mahalakshmi Day, called Deepavali, the Festival of Lights, we enliven the specific values of creative intelligence in Nature that bestow wealth, eliminate poverty, and remove obstacles and weaknesses in individual and collective consciousness.
I sincerely wish you, from the heart of Purusha, all of these blessings on this most auspicious of days for the coming year.

On Lamps of Deepavali
India, 1951

Maharishi (Bal Brahmachari Mahesh):
"Innumerable lamps have suddenly lit the darkness of night and the whole earth is glowing as if waking up, becoming aware to receive love from its own innerlight;
Or has the earth become the sky and yesterday's twinkling stars have become today's garlands of lamps, lighting the whole earth;
Or is it I who has risen up today and lit these lamps with my own hands, expressing my own inner light—the Purushartha, which has transformed the darkness of this time into bright light.
The darkness of tonight's new moon has brightened up far more than the glow of the full moon nights.
Yes, this total darkness of the new moon nights of Karttik months has always come and will always be coming at its usual time, but in all our alertness, we have always risen up taking the lamp in our hands, and we will always keep rising up, carrying innumerable lamps and transforming the darkness into the celebration of a big Festival of Lights through our own fully enlivened inner light—the Purushartha.
And why not? Great is the glory of Purushartha—fully enlivened inner light—and it is so apparent that the lamp of the Self, which I had lit earlier in the darkness of life, today that one lamp has multiplied outside, shining as innumerable bright lamps of Deepavali.
Diwali [Deepavali] will be truly glorious only when the inner light is lit, and then Diwali would not only be today, but will be every day. Diwali will then be purposeful. Otherwise, today's Diwali itself is saying—So what if the garlands of lamps have lit the light outside just for one day in a year?"

Support for Martin Magee
This is an appeal to assist Martin, who is currently in a fix - his visa for India runs out in January and he has to return to Australia to apply for another visa. The timing is not good: Australian government covid-19 regulations require quarantine on his return for 2 weeks which costs $3000, plus he has the airfare, transit expenses, visa costs, and living expenses while in Australia.
Martin was one of the first people to respond to Maharishi's call to the world for seekers of pure knowledge to become teachers of Transcendental Meditation, and he did his teacher training course with Maharishi in Rishikesh, and so he really is a founder of the movement in Australia, if not the world. He has been a stalwart of Purusha for 35 years and here with Uttarkashi Purusha for the last 20 years.
If you have Martin's bank account details he will be grateful for any donations you can deposit. Alternatively my PayPal account is open to your donations to Martin in the interim which you can access by clicking the 'Donate now' button below. When you make your donation on my account send me a message in reply to this newsletter and I'll transfer the funds to him.

Purusha sponsors are really precious! By sponsoring you are creating a partnership of coherence in the world supporting Purusha and their long deep programs. You are a foundation of their full time permanent commitment, the life of a recluse. Consider the words of Adi-Shankara:
“Whosoever gives to someone who dedicates himself fully to the quest for enlightenment receives the benefits of this man’s acts and meditations without having to undergo the tribulations associated with his life. Truly fortunate is one who supports the ascetic, because he doesn’t have to leave the comfort of his home to fully gain the advantage of this man’s tapas (meditations).” - Shankara Dig Vijaya.
