Greetings from Uttarkashi.
We're feeling the bite of Himalayan winter here now; time to rug up!
This newsletter has a health orientation, beginning with an excellent quote on healing by Maharishi, which he follows with his insight into the body as consciousness. Then our esteemed Dr Robert Schneider dives deep into 'mind over ageing' with 10 tips to live a longer healthier life. And then there is a link to download the free book Genetic Roulette on how protect yourself from GMO's. Plus quotes from Buddha on the nature of transcending, and positive news from around the world. Enjoy!

Calendar
I'm currently preparing the 2018 Vedic calendar which I'm sending to my regular monthly sponsors. In previous years the photos have almost all been from my own archive of pics I've taken here in India. You're in for a surprise! Something very colourful, and very Indian is coming your way this year.
It's not too late to become a regular sponsor; go to my Sponsorship page on my web site here for details of how to sponsor (either recurring or one-off donation options at the bottom of any page on the web site).
Newsletter note
Contrary to my enthusiastic advice in the last newsletter (that you can post my newsletters on Facebook, Instagram, etc by clicking on the icons at the bottom of the newsletter) -- well, you can't! Instead, just click on the "View in Browser" link above, and when in your browser click on the share button to post on Facebook etc.

Thanks to everyone for the great feedback on the last newsletter from West Virginia.

"Everything in the world has healing power, has the power of healing to some degree or the other. Everything that is charming soothes the mind. When a child runs about here and there and does some mischief and somebody punishes him, he goes to the lap of mother. The lap of mother has a great healing capacity. The child on the lap of mother forgets the agony of the punishment outside and begins to enjoy.
Feeling a great fatigue and tired from the day's labor, we go to the cinema. If the scenes are good and appealing and nice, it has some soothing effect, some healing power. Everything good in the world has the effect of healing.
Now, the effect of healing is greater if the capacity of charming is greater. If one thing can charm the mind more, can fascinate the mind more, can attract the mind more, then it has a greater healing power. The greater is the charm, the greater is the power of healing in the object.

Meditation[TM] has the greatest healing power because it leads to greatest happiness. Meditation[TM] leads to greatest happiness of a permanent order. It leads to the Kingdom of Heaven; it leads to the glory of God; it leads to eternal bliss -- happiness of the greatest order and of a permanent nature. Therefore, we hold that meditation[TM] has the greatest healing power. And the greatest healing power will be that which would be able to heal the life as a whole, making all components of life, all phases of life soothing and harmonious." ~ Maharishi ~The Healing Power of Deep Meditation*(vinyl recording) -- Hollywood, USA -- 1959~

We know about the Buddha’s life chiefly through legends, written down several centuries after he lived. Born Siddhartha Gautama in present-day Nepal, he was a prince who lived an opulent life, shielded by his father, King Suddhodana, from the world’s travails.

The Body Is Made of Consciousness-Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Is consciousness a by-product of electrochemical processes? Maharishi: 'One word would be the answer to it. The word is “unmanifest.” There is the manifest, and the other thing is unmanifest. It’s manifest and unmanifest, diversity and unity. Together they are the reality. Together. Not one, or not the other.'
